  • System Down over the Labor Day Weekend (Thursday, September 3, 2009)
In an attempt to resolve some of the problems with the operating system Blackboard has scheduled a system upgrade on 05-SEP-09 between 10.00 PM EDT to 10.00
AM EDT (06-SEP-09). During this time the Blackboard site will not be available.

  • Resource Not Found Error (Thursday, September 3, 2009)

Again numerous Faculty are experiencing a "resource not found" error when students attempt to log into their courses, please review the directions below to attempt to fix this problem.

Some of you might be experiencing a “resource not found error” when students attempt to log into your course. Here is a possible solution for this problem.

    1. Go to the control panel and open up the customization tab. Then click on enrollment options

    2. Look for your course enrollment options and make sure you have the box checked that says self enrollment and not the box that says instructor/system administrator.

    3. Then make sure that you have selected dates for the self enrollment and that these dates are not the same date.

    4. Click submit

    5. Then go to the course properties area and check and make sure the course is selected as available.

    6. Scroll down the page and check the box that says "set dates" and make sure you have set the dates  for its availability and specifically select these dates in the boxes.

Leaving any of these dates blank seems to cause a problem. Check these two items and see if you have any success. Since you are already there you might want to also check and make sure your course is categorized correctly.

Good Luck if you have any questions please email me.

  • Student Usernames (Monday, August 24, 2009)
Dear Faculty please remember that students SHOULD NOT be issued a Blackboard username that is their last name and initial, nor should their usernames be any combination of letters and numbers. The only way that their usernames should appear is lastnamefirst name. For example if their name is John Doe, then their username should be doejohn. Please cease the creation of alternative usernames for students. This will put their accounts in jeopardy. Additionally, students should not be referred to me to create their accounts. Each  person with a system admin tab should know that they can create student accounts from within your own class. This means that you can also modify the students passwords if they have lost them.
Thank you and have a great day.
